Bryan Thompson

Hammerhead Consulting Group is led by Bryan Thompson, a 30-year veteran of the sports, education, and  the defense and intelligence industries. His extensive experience within local, state, and federal organizations offers unique and unparalleled insight into developing avenues and building capacity. Among his multifaceted background as a project manager, technology leader, and head coach, Thompson has helped develop sensitive data collection and image processing systems for the US Air Force and US Army Corps of Engineers, implemented partnerships for K-12  education initiatives to enhance STEM and technology learning opportunities, and fostered cultural sports exchange programs.  These efforts aim to build stronger community relations and provide diverse educational experiences. Bryan's tenure as an economics and  geopolitical instructor and technology integrator and coordinator has equipped him with the skills necessary to innovate and foster collaborative learning environments and engage with diverse learner groups.

A Registered Athletic Director (RAA) through the National Athletic Administrator’s Association (NIAAA), Thompson is also the CEO and founder of Hammerhead Wrestling Systems, LLC, a private athletic academy and club. Founded in 2011, it serves the simple purpose of developing student athletes for success in life. Success here is measured not only in preparation for competing at the next level, including college and Olympic/World levels, but in the development of the individual for post-graduate and professional achievement.  Participation in these activities enhances skills such as leadership, teamwork, and resilience, a cornerstone of the American education system's focus on producing well-rounded graduates ready to tackle complex challenges.

Bryan's  30-year professional continuum provides a  critical difference that uniquely benefits his clients, and plays an important role in achieving the clients’ ultimate goals. His communication style and connections within these industries allows Bryan to speak effectively and efficiently with CEOs, state, federal, and foreign administrators, marketing leaders and others. He combines his leadership skills with his extensive knowledge to offer tailored solutions that drive success.

 Andy Wood

Andy Wood joined Hammerhead Consulting Group in 2025 as an Advising Consultant, and brings 20+ years of experience in athletic programming, youth development, and – most recently – data privacy and digital governance.  While studying for a Masters of Education, Andy was fortunate to work with leading professors in Exercise & Sports Science & Education at Smith College (Mass.) to help design an innovative youth development program built around the powerful dynamic of teaching adolescents in at-risk communities to become coaches and role-models for younger children in their neighborhoods.  As the pilot program grew and became a reality, Andy led the program as its Executive Director for several years, recruiting graduate students from across the Five Colleges to design curriculum and operationalize the project; initially in Springfield (Mass.), which became a permanent location for the program, as well as satellite ventures across cities in the U.S. and – most notably – an exchange initiative in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State which allowed teenagers from the U.S. to travel to Marseille, France, and, reciprocally, serve as hosts.

After later serving as a teacher, coach, and ultimately a High School Athletic Director,  Andy moved into a consulting role within the Data Privacy and Digital Governance industry, creating new opportunities for international collaboration on complex projects and helping to provide solutions across multiple teams and business areas. A common thread running through each of these different experiences has been a passion for thinking through the pedagogy of what creates effective leaders and programming, and how impactful learning can shape communities and drive positive change through developing new skillsets that participants can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Andy hopes to bring his expertise in these fields to help foster the continued growth and expansion of Hammerhead Consulting Group. to add an engaging title. High quality images go a long way in looking professional online.

Our Services

Column

We help leverage the global appeal of sports to foster positive international relations through commercial and political

sports diplomacy, cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and cooperation. This ultimately transcends borders and leads to increased people-to-people engagement. Such strategies  foster global peace and more interconnected societies by breaking down barriers.

People often ask “What is “sports diplomacy”? In developing programming for students, clients, and organizations, we see

sports diplomacy as recognizing the soft power of sports in all societies, in order to create and develop economic, social, and

cultural opportunities.

A big mission in, frankly, a short statement. Sports “diplomacy” should employ a variety of tactics, skills, and cooperative

strategies to achieve some common goals, regardless of region, nationality, or locale: advancing human cooperation, connections, and growth.

Many of our services are based on  the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961, Public Law 87-256, as amended, also known as the Fulbright-Hays Act. The purpose of the Act is "to enable the Government of the United States to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries...; to strengthen the ties which unite us with other nations by demonstrating the educational and cultural interests, developments, and achievements of the people of the United States and other nations...and thus to assist in the development of friendly, sympathetic and  peaceful relations between the United States and the other countries of the world."

We can assist in expanding U.S. sports management knowledge and best practices like community outreach and involvement, cultural sports exchanges, including coaches, youth sports league management, personnel and budget management in athletic organizations,  resulting in greater appreciation for American leadership in sports innovation.
